Texas A&M professor dies after being hit by garbage truck in College Station

A Texas A&M professor has died after being struck by a garbage truck in College Station Tuesday.

Hilaire Kallendorf, 50, was killed in the accident, which involved a City of College Station garbage truck. The incident occurred Tuesday morning at the Lake Walk at Traditions apartment complex. Kallendorf’s identity was released in the afternoon after her next of kin had been notified.

According to a curriculum vitae on Texas A&M’s website, Kallendorf was a professor of Hispanic and Religious Studies at the school. After receiving her bachelor’s degree from A&M in 1995, she earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Princeton University. Over the years, she had also received numerous grants, awards and titles for her work in literature and academia.
