Spencer Solves It: Massive help for young couple raising baby with life-threatening medical condition

HOUSTON – If you are a parent, you know you would do anything for your child. But just imagine, your child is battling a life-threatening medical condition, and you don’t even have a working car to rush them to the hospital or bring them to important medical appointments.

KPRC 2′s Bill Spencer met with one family struggling with that brutal situation. Bill and his Spencer Solves It team went right to work to help this special family.

Tesa Sveter rubs coconut oil all over her one-and-half-year-old son Alistair to try and comfort him.

Her son, little Alistair, suffers from a life-threatening disease called Neurocutaneous Melanosis that causes horrific seizures and muscular and neurological problems that have the potential to kill him at any moment.

It also causes large growths or tumors and unwanted hair to pop up all over his body.

So, his mother Tesa says she treasures every moment she has with him.

“I love this little boy more than I love life itself,” Tesa said.

Because of Alistair’s disease, it’s imperative that his parents be able to get him to his doctors’ appointments and all of his specialized therapies but several months ago the family car gave out completely and stopped running.

“Without that car, we are completely done,” Tesa said. “It’s all over for us.”

That’s when Tesa’s mom got desperate and decided to contact the Spencer Solves It team for help.

And right away, I contacted my friends at Christian Brothers Automotive in Cypress and owner Scooter Owens, who has helped the Spencer Solves It team so many times in the past.

Immediately, Scooter agreed to fix up Tesa and Ryce’s car like brand new again.

But there were some very serious problems with the car.

That includes a destroyed exhaust system that was pumping carbon monoxide into the car and could have killed Tesa and her entire family.

The entire job takes days to complete. Lots of different repairs, brakes, exhaust, engine mounts, transmission mounts, damaged axles, and more.

The total cost of the job is well over $6,000, but Christian Brothers is ready and more than willing to do the entire job for FREE to help this struggling family.

After several days in the shop, Bill Spencer drove the repaired car back to Tesa and Ryce’s place and showed them what we had done.

“Oh my God,” she said. “It looks like a brand-new car. I barely recognize our own car.”

Tesa and Ryce could hardly believe what they were seeing. Their once broken-down vehicle was transformed into a “like-brand-new-ride” they can actually depend on.

“They’re just aren’t enough words to tell you how thankful we are,” Tesa said.

“Thank you so much for taking such good care of our family,” Ryce said, hugging his wife and his little boy, and fighting back the emotion.

More good news: After Bill shared this story more people stepped up to help this family.
