Kingwood, Porter residents feeling forgotten after going 9 days without power following Beryl

‘I think we’re just forgotten’

Editor’s Note: KPRC 2 has been informed the two people we spoke with from the Woodridge Forest neighborhood have had power restored as of 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Walking into Eric Lambert’s home in the Woodridge Forest neighborhood, it’s dark, and it’s been like this for nine days.

“I have a hybrid truck, so we were running extension cords through the house, plugged into everything we could and then had an electrician come out and connect my truck to a braker box,” Lambert said. “Now, I have a generator running a fan, here. We’ve got all the windows, and everything closed. We turn on lights sparingly, because I don’t know how much power that little generator can put out.”

Lambert said he has not heard much from CenterPoint.

“I think we’re just forgotten. We’re really relying on our County Judge, Mark Keough,” Lambert said.

As of Sunday, Montgomery County Judge Keough posted on Facebook, saying CenterPoint had not even done and assessment yet in the area.

“How can that be? How can we have the fourth largest power grid out of 12 counties and have the least amount of activations in Montgomery County,” said Keough.

“It’s extremely frustrating, because everybody is getting power around you. ENTERGY is in the neighborhood too, and they’ve had power for days,” said Lambert.

Lambert said their power lines are underground and have only been installed for roughly 10 years.

Lauri Smith also lives in the neighborhood and is relying on a generator.

“We understand hurricanes happen. Power outages happen. Just happened. We lost power for several days in May, and this happens a lot. And we just want. Transparent communication from CenterPoint. And they need to acknowledge that there are flaws in the system.”

Smith said her father, Steve Smith, is also battling without power at the Ivy Point Senior Living apartments in Kingwood. The thermostat in his room reads 90 degrees.

He typically sleeps on a couch in the clubhouse where a generator is running.

“I think people are suffering, though maybe not something major, but just worn-out and. And it’s hot. The heat is a big problem,” said Steve Smith.

According to CenterPoint’s outage map, the Kingwood and Porter areas are expected to have power restored by Thursday and Friday. KPRC 2 reached out to CenterPoint for comment, officials said they are looking into our request.
