‘It’s sad to see this happen on Father’s Day’: 71-year-old man found dead in apartment

A 71-year-old man was found beaten to death inside his apartment in northwest Houston early Sunday morning. It remains unclear who called the police to report the incident.

The victim was later identified to be named Bill Fazenbaker.

Fazenbaker’s stepson, Ricky Ray Allen Jr., was discovered at a nearby corner store and taken in for questioning. According to reports, there has been a history of altercations between the two men.

HPD reported that the call came in at 5:14 a.m. Officers arrived at the 4100 block of Sherwood Lane and found the victim inside the apartment.

“It’s sad to see this happen on Father’s Day,” remarked HPD Sgt. Mike Cass.

Allen is cooperating with authorities and is currently being booked into the Harris County Jail.

Neighbors confirmed the family had lived in the apartment for some time and noted previous incidents involving Allen, including an alleged arrest for theft on the property. Fazenbaker had known his stepson since he was ten years old.

Investigations are ongoing, and detectives are working to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the 71-year-old’s death.
