HOUSTON – KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with scholarships in 2023. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.
The ninth $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Yannick Mofor, who is currently a senior at Cypress Ridge High School located in the Cy-Fair Independent School District.
Mofor was selected for All-State Orchestra and is currently ranked as the seventh violist in the state of Texas.
A National Merit Finalist, Mofor is also an inductee in several honors societies, including the National Honors Society, French National Honors Society, Math National Honors Society and Tri-M Music Honors Society. He is the student body president for his senior class and serves as vice president of Key Club and the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA). One of Mofor’s service projects included efforts to collect sanitary products for young girls in rural Nigeria.
While he is deciding on his future college, Mofor plans to dive into the medical field. In his nomination essay, Mofor noted his passion for public health, global health and cultural empowerment, saying, “I hope to work with lawmakers to improve healthcare infrastructure around the world and to research the causes and structural interventions for increased cancer rates in Africa.”
