DAISETTA, Texas – The parents of a 1-year-old girl who was found dead in a neighbor’s pool in Liberty County have been arrested, according to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a report of a missing child at a home on West Pine Street at 2:30 p.m. It was initially reported that the child was found in the family’s pool but it was later discovered that the child was in the neighbor’s pool.

When the medical personnel arrived at the scene, they performed CPR on the girl but she did not respond, according to investigators.

Investigators said they questioned the parents and were told the child had been put down for a nap, and when they checked on her about two hours later, she was not in her bed.

Investigators said an autopsy has been ordered to determine the child’s cause of death.

On Wednesday morning, the parents, Londell Laviene and Bonnie Tarrant, were charged with interfering with public duties and also with resisting arrest. Both were placed in the Liberty County jail.

Child Protective Services and their fatality investigation unit is also investigating the incident because the parents had another child drown in 2015 in Liberty County.

The couple’s four other children, ranging in ages from 14 to one month, were removed from the home and placed with CPS.

The Texas Rangers and Daisetta Police Department are also assisting with this on-going investigation.
