Authorities are urging parents to stay informed about a recent iPhone update that allows apps to be hidden from view, prompting conversations about safe smartphone habits.
The Sugar Land Police Department recently alerted parents via social media about a new iOS 18 iPhone feature that allows users to hide apps.

Hidden apps will not appear on the home screen or in search results, and notifications for these apps are also disabled.
According to Apple, users can now lock and hide apps to protect sensitive information. To open a locked app on the home screen, users must use Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode.
Hidden apps are stored in a locked folder within the app library, and any information stored in these apps won’t appear elsewhere on the iPhone, including in notifications or search results.
The department encourage parents to have open conversations with their children about safe and responsible phone usage, setting rules and expectations for behavior when using their devices.
