Celebrate Earth Day in Houston by taking part in today’s array of activities that promote sustainability and environmental education. Here’s where you can find events:

Earth Day at the Houston Zoo: The Houston Zoo will celebrate Earth Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the grand opening of its new Wildlife Workshop, a reimagined space designed to inspire conservation through hands-on learning. Included with general admission and free for members, the event features interactive activities such as birding with the Zoo Crew, plant propagation demonstrations, and eco-friendly crafts like window clings to prevent bird collisions and bird nest starter kits. Guests can also tune in to a special Instagram Live from the Wildlife Workshop at 9:30 a.m. for an early look at the new space.

Houston Museum of Natural Science: Join the celebration of Earth Day at the Houston Museum of Natural Science from 3 to 7 p.m. with eco-friendly, hands-on activities for all ages. Guests can explore interactive touch carts throughout the museum that highlight the impact humans have on the planet, enjoy solar-powered demonstrations with the Astronomy team at the Sundial, and experience the immersive Discovery Dome in Glassell Hall. The Cockrell Butterfly Center will also host an Insect Zoo, offering a close-up look at fascinating creatures.

Earth Day Plant Potting Party: Plant lovers of all experience levels are invited to celebrate Earth Day with a hands-on potting workshop at Finn Hall in downtown Houston. Hosted by The Finn, the event takes place Tuesday, April 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. and costs $60 per person. Attendees will learn the basics of plant care, take part in a live potting demo, and receive guidance from experts during a Q&A session. Each participant will choose a plant and pot, then leave with their own custom creation. The workshop also includes two complimentary cocktails or mocktails. All supplies are provided, and space is limited.

BLOOM Earth Day Celebration: Guests can enjoy this Earth Day celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., filled with sustainability, creativity, and nature-inspired fun. Attendees can enjoy hands-on activities like creating their own flower bouquets and decorating Earth-themed bath bombs with Buff City Soap. The event also features a showcase of eco-friendly haircare products by London Alchemist and a special screening of The Lorax presented by Alamo Drafthouse, with free tickets available to the first 45 guests. Plus, 150 tree saplings will be given away while supplies last, encouraging everyone to plant for the future.

H-E-B’s Earth Day giveaway: As part of its annual Earth Day celebration, H-E-B is giving away 274,000 reusable bags to customers across Texas beginning at 8 a.m. on April 22. The bags, available at H-E-B, Central Market, Joe V’s Smart Shop, and Mi Tienda locations, feature artwork inspired by Galveston Island State Park and are part of a three-year postcard-style series. One random shopper per store will also win an annual Texas State Parks pass.
