HOUSTON – Food lovers, mark your calendars! On Thursday, April 24, Houston will once again host Taste of the Nation, the annual culinary fundraiser supporting the No Kid Hungry campaign.
The event rounds up some of the city’s most recognized chefs, bartenders, and bakers to serve small bites, sweet treats, and drinks—all in an effort to raise money to combat childhood hunger.

More than 40 local culinary names are expected, including Top Chef finalists Evelyn Garcia and Dawn Burrell, along with Houston staples like Truth BBQ and BCN Taste & Tradition.
“Helping No Kid Hungry raise funds and awareness to end childhood hunger is a win-win for all of us,” said Becky Masson, pastry chef and owner of Fluff Bake Bar. “I can’t think of a better way to guarantee a stronger tomorrow than to ensure every child has the food they need today.”
There’s also an All-Access ticket option, which gets you 45 minutes early and plenty of time to casually hover near the brisket station before the rest of the crowd shows up. It also comes with a reusable tasting plate, an exclusive bite and beverage pairing, and other perks.
Organizers say guests can also expect live cooking and mixology demonstrations, music, and what is vaguely described as “interactive games.” Interpret that as you will.
Behind all the bites is a real issue: According to No Kid Hungry, nearly 1 in 4 children in Texas faces food insecurity.
“No Kid Hungry is working [with] schools and community organizations… to connect kids with healthy food,” said Debbie Shore, co-founder of Share Our Strength. “It will take all of us to make No Kid Hungry a reality.”
Local chefs share this belief, understanding that their work goes far beyond just cooking.
“Chefs understand the power of food to bring people together and to change lives,” said Ryan Pera, chef and owner of Coltivare. “That’s why working with No Kid Hungry is so important to me. It means I get to do what I do best while lifting up my community.”
