HOUSTON – On the same day we’re learning Southwest Airlines will limit hiring and stop flying to four airports, including Bush Intercontinental, the airline is offering deep discounts for Rapid Reward members.
The airline says it’s coping with delays on deliveries of new planes from Boeing. Southwest also reported first-quarter losses today.
At the same time, the airline has launched a big promotion. You can buy Rapid Reward points -- amounts over 3,000 -- for 50 percent off.
You can grab 3,000 points for $49.50, down from $90. That promotion goes all the way up to 60,000 points for $990, down from $1,800. And it doesn’t look like there’s a limit to how much you can buy. The 50% off sale runs through May 15.
And check this out (probably no coincidence) -- one-way flights out of Hobby are $49 this weekend.
