Sunshine, ragweed and low humidity continue for Houstonians as we end September

While the humidity is down, we’ll still be seeing temps more fitting of early September

Another spectacular fall day graces Houston with comfortable temperatures and low humidity, but the weather team is tracking poor air quality, allergies and elevated fire dangers.

This Afternoon’s Forecast:

Houston enjoys another splendid day with low humidity, much like yesterday, but enjoy it while it lasts because the humidity returns on Friday. Afternoon temperatures are still hot in the lower-to-mid 90s.

Wednesday’s Forecast:

Wednesday will be another sunny day with afternoon high temperatures in the mid-90s. Humidity is still low.

Air quality Concerns:

Harris, Galveston and Brazoria counties are under an air quality alert. This is also called an ozone action day. This means if you suffer from respiratory problems (such as asthma) you may want to consider exercising indoors, or limiting your time outside.

Pollen Problems:

We’re also watching an increase in fall allergies, so if you suffer from ragweed pollen, for example, the next few days could still be challenging, despite the beautiful weather outside.

If you suffer from allergies or respiratory issues, poor air quality coupled with either condition could make symptoms worse.

Fire Risk:

As we move toward October, there might be a slight uptick in dew point temperatures as some coastal moisture builds in, leading to the chance of a few hit-and-miss showers late next week. For now, though, most days should remain dry with highs sitting in the upper 80s and low 90s putting us at a higher fire risk.

Tropical outlook:

1. Hurricane Humberto: Sustained winds of 80 mph. Expect tropical-storm-force winds to impact Bermuda by late Tuesday, along with dangerous rip currents affecting the northern Caribbean, Bahamas, and Bermuda. Humberto is steering Imelda eastward, away from the U.S. but we’re still keeping a close eye on our east coast states.

2. Hurricane Imelda: Sustained winds of 85 mph, about 90 miles from the Bahamas. Tropical storm conditions are affecting the northwestern Bahamas today. Eastern Cuba and the Bahamas face risks of flash and urban flooding. High swells and dangerous surf are expected along the Florida and Georgia coasts today.
