Houston has enjoyed a quiet hurricane season so far, but with the season lasting until November 30, vigilance remains key. While we’re thankful it’s calm in our region, we’re closely monitoring the East Coast as tropical activity begins to intensify.
Here is what we’re watching and tracking in the tropics:
Hurricane Humberto: As of early this morning, Humberto is about 375 miles northeast of the Leeward Islands, moving at 7 mph with sustained winds of 145 mph (Category 4, defined as 130-156). However, it’s not impacting land.
Air Quality Warning: Houston, Galveston and Brazoria
Potential Tropical Cyclone 9 (Imelda): Tropical storm warnings are in effect for parts of the central and northwestern Bahamas. Expect rainfall impacts across eastern Cuba, Hispaniola, and Jamaica as this system is expected to turn into a tropical storm this weekend.
We’re monitoring potential flood risks and heavy rainfall from Florida and Georgia to the Carolinas early next week. South Carolina has already declared a preemptive state of emergency.
Stay informed on tropical activity with real-time tracking, and your KPRC 2 weather team will update you on the latest developments in the tropics.
