New disturbance forms in the western Caribbean:
HOUSTON – A tropical disturbance has formed in the Caribbean and is now heading toward the Yucatan Peninsula. As of Tuesday night, it’s mainly producing tropical rain as it moves northwest.
The disturbance is set to cross the Yucatan before pushing into the Bay of Campeche. At this point, the odds of this system turning into a tropical depression or tropical storm are 20%. Click below to see what the futurecast looks like.
Tropical rain likely for Houston and Southeast Texas late week:
This system will be in the Gulf Thursday. It’s too early to know exactly what Houston will see, as the system still has to move across land and may or may not organize. At this time, the most likely scenario is tropical rain. But if it strengthens impacts will change.
Stay weather aware:
Please keep an eye on the forecast. It’s just too early to know the impacts with a system that began to form Tuesday. If the system manages to strengthen in the Bay of Campeche, that will bring more dramatic changes to the forecast for Mexico and Texas. For now, the advice is simple: check back with Click2Houston and the KPRC 2 Weather Team for updates the next three days.
