Houston hit its third 100-degree day earlier Wednesday afternoon. That was just one degree shy of tying the record of 101 set in 2021. Many spots will be making a run at the century mark again on Thursday.
Thursday’s Forecast:
Isolated storms have been popping up for several days—this pattern is expected to repeat on Thursday, especially around lunchtime and into the afternoon.
While some storms will be scattered, there’s a good chance many will be widespread along the coastline during the morning hours, then move inland toward Houston.
Rain chances are highest for Houston and the southern parts of the region, with a 30 to 40 percent chance of showers mainly on Thursday. Further north and west, it’s expected to stay a bit drier.
Plan for “wet and stormy” conditions south of Houston, especially if your routine keeps you outdoors in the afternoon—these storms could be inconvenient at times.
We will continue to see this pattern through Saturday before High pressure moves farther west, allowing for more disturbances to enter SE Texas next week.
Tracking the tropics, tracking the Gulf:
The Atlantic is heating up! There are now three areas of tropical tracking in the Atlantic basin. None are bringing impacts to the Gulf Coast at this time.
There is another disturbance off the coast of the Carolinas. It has a medium chance of developing in the next seven days, but it will create rough surf.
A tropical wave will move off the coast of Africa this week and has a 60% chance of developing into a storm over the next 7 days.

Your extended forecast:
Behind the rain comes more heat and humidity. As you’re planning your week, the heat remains the big story for Houston, with afternoon thunderstorms always a possibility, especially for those closer to the coast.
