Grab the tissues Houston, because ragweed is back!

The Houston Health Department counts pollen Monday through Friday, and this week, they reported the first ragweed pollen of the season. This is on time; August is the start of ragweed season, and the pollen will continue to peak through September and October.

So expect more days of irritation—runny nose, itchy eyes, congestion, and sneezing.

The season doesn’t end until our first freeze, but the colder temperatures could come later this year. Temperature outlooks from the Climate Prediction Center show above-average temperatures across Texas through November.

The potential for prolonged warmth and a later freeze means more time for ragweed pollen to thrive and allergy sufferers to hold onto the box of tissues longer than they would like.
