The classic August heat isn’t letting up in Houston, and the trend is expected to stick around for a while.
Wednesday Forecast:
Highs are forecast to reach the mid to upper 90s—think 96 to 98 degrees over the next few days—with the familiar humidity cranking up what it actually feels like outside.
Each afternoon, that heat is sparking the chance for pop-up showers and thunderstorms, sometimes packing a punch with heavy rain and lots of lightning.
Not everyone in the Greater Houston area will get soaked, though, the chances are higher along our coastal cities, especially in the morning.
In other words, the closer you are to the coast, the more likely that a thunderstorm will roll through, especially into the lunch time hours.
Tracking the tropics, tracking the Gulf:
The Atlantic is heating up! There are now three areas of interest in the Atlantic basin. None are bringing impacts to the Gulf Coast.
Tropical Storm Dexter is the 4th named storm to form in the Atlantic. It will continue to move east away from the United States.
There is another disturbance off the coast of the Carolinas. It has a medium chance of developing in the next seven days, but it will create rough surf.
A tropical wave will move off the coast of Africa this week and has a 60% chance of developing into a storm over the next 7 days.

Your extended forecast:
Behind the rain comes more heat and humidity. As you’re planning your week, the heat remains the big story for Houston, with afternoon thunderstorms always a possibility, especially for those closer to the coast.
