This Afternoon’s Forecast:
Happy Friday! The good news is our heat will take a break this weekend, the bad news is that it’s due to tropical downpours lasting through the weekend. “Tropical downpours” just mean there’s a lot of moisture, so street flooding is a concern with heavier showers and thunderstorms.
We’ve seen rainfall through the day and rain chances increase through the afternoon. Check out our current radar below:
Expect scattered downpours across southeast Texas through Sunday. Storms will come in waves, with dry breaks in between, through Saturday. The risk of flash flooding is low but not zero. Rain chances remain elevated into the weekend, especially for Friday evening and early Saturday.
The weekend:
Saturday anticipate on and off tropical bands starting in the morning along the coast. Moving inland during the afternoon and evening.
Sunday looks drier, and by early next week, Houston returns to its typical summer pattern with highs in the upper 90s and a mix of sun and humidity.
Tracking the tropics, tracking the Gulf:
There is a 10% chance for the low pressure bringing tropical downpours to develop. At this point it doesn’t look likely that this will organize at all. The tropical disturbance is encountering shear. Shear is the change in wind speed and direction and it acts as scissors to tropical systems.

Your extended forecast:
Temperatures hug the low 90s with daily rain chances this weekend. Once the rain moves out this weekend, we’re quickly back into the upper 90s with some serious summer sizzle.
