This Afternoon’s Forecast:
Temperatures in Houston are climbing again today, with highs near 99 to 100 degrees. That’s just shy of the July 24 record of 101 set in 1954. While no official heat advisory is in effect for Houston, the heat index could still reach 104 to 106 degrees.
Changes are coming:
Starting Friday, expect scattered downpours across southeast Texas. Storms will come in waves, with dry breaks in between, through Saturday. The risk of flash flooding is low but not zero. Rain chances remain elevated into the weekend, especially for Friday evening and early Saturday.
Sunday looks drier, and by early next week, Houston returns to its typical summer pattern with highs in the upper 90s and a mix of sun and humidity.
Tracking the tropics, tracking the Gulf:
There is a 10% chance for a low pressure moving across the Gulf Coast to develop over the next 2 days. While that is slim, it’s not nothing. The system has been running into a lot of wind shear, which can keep development low.
This system does have a small chance of developing, however, Tropical moisture could bring downpours heavy enough on Friday to cause street flooding in parts of southeast Texas.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on it and will keep you updated.

Your extended forecast:
Highs in the upper 90s and muggy lows in the upper 70s to 80 degrees are sticking around next week. Once the rain moves out this weekend, we’re quickly back into the upper 90s with some serious summer sizzle.
