Houston reached its first 100° day of the year on Tuesday, and the tropical rain expected at the end of the week has a 10% chance of developing into a tropical depression or tropical storm.
Wednesday and Thursday’s Forecast:
Before the rain arrives, we’ll be dealing with more triple-digit heat.
High pressure will dominate our weather pattern through Thursday.

Houston may come up short of hitting 100 Wednesday with temperatures only in the mid-90s Wednesday at 2 PM.
However, temperatures turn-up Thursday we could come close to the record 101 set in 1954.
While Houston isn’t under a heat advisory, some of the hottest weather will impact areas just to the east and northeast, including Lufkin, Beaumont, and Port Arthur.
In Houston, the heat index should reach 104 to 106 degrees—so even without an official advisory, it’s important to stay cool and hydrated.
Tracking the tropics, tracking the Gulf:
There is a 10% chance for a low pressure moving across the Gulf Coast to develop over the next 2 and 7 days. Slim chances, especially if the low-pressure center stays on land longer than it stays over warm Gulf waters. Without that center over water, a tropical depression or storm can’t form.
Yogi Berra may have also said, “Never say never.” And while I can’t confirm he actually did, it kind of fits here.
This system does have a small chance of developing, 10%. But that’s not the headline. What matters more is the rain. Tropical moisture could bring downpours heavy enough on Friday to cause street flooding in parts of southeast Texas.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on it and will keep you updated.

Your extended forecast:
Highs in the upper 90s and muggy lows in the upper 70s to 80 degrees are sticking around all week. There’s no serious shift in the heat until those late-week rain chances, so be sure to take care during these intense afternoons.
