It’s a hot and steamy start to the work week in Houston.

Monday morning, the temperature kick off at 78°, but it will feel warmer with a heat index of 86°. That sticky summer pattern sticks around, pushing afternoon highs all the way to the mid-90s and sending the heat index to feel like 104 to 106° between 2 and 4 PM.

Monday’s Forecast

Forecast models show that temperatures will stay slightly above average through the next five days, holding steady between 96 and 98 degrees. The humidity isn’t backing off, and the heat index looks locked in from 103 to 106 every afternoon, Monday through Friday.

High pressure dominates through Thursday, keeping skies dry and conditions hot.

But as the week winds down, the remnants of the storm system we were tracking last week that caused heavy rain in Louisiana makes a comeback. It’s in the Midwest now, midweek it’s back in the Gulf. It may get steered back toward Houston and Southeast Texas by Friday and Saturday. Its proximity to land makes it tough for the disturbance to strengthen into a tropical system, but rain and thunderstorms are a good possibility. If it can move over water, which it couldn’t do last week, then it could strengthen. We will watch this carefully for you. Right now, there’s a 40% chance of thunderstorms from Friday into Saturday.

Tracking the tropics:

There is one area in the Atlantic we’re tracking. This system became a watch area last Friday, but as of now, chances for development have dropped from 20% down to 10%. This is going to have a tough time forming because of how far south it is. And increasing wind shear is expected to disrupt it as it edges northward. This means we may not be watching it much longer. It may not survive the next few days.

Your 10-Day Forecast:

Highs in the upper 90s and muggy lows in the upper 70s to 80 degrees are sticking around all week. There’s no serious shift in the heat until those late-week rain chances, so be sure to take care during these intense afternoons.
