There is a new area of interest in the tropics, and it is close to home. A cluster of showers and storms will continue to move into the Bay of Campeche on Saturday and Sunday. There is a 20 percent chance that it could strengthen to an organized storm over the next seven days.
In the meantime, there will be increased rain across Central America and Mexico.
However, the odds are against development because wind shear is high and Saharan dust will move into the Gulf through the weekend and early week, helping dry out some levels in the atmosphere.
