HOUSTON – I can remember so many Independence Day celebrations growing up here in SE Texas, where we were not allowed to shoot off fireworks due to burn bans. We couldn’t have roman candles, sparklers, little bugs that spin around on the driveway, and certainly no big grand finale. Instead, we had to settle for zero pyrotechnics, only smoke bombs and confetti poppers.
Truth be told, burn bans and firework restrictions are a regular headline when we’ve had a dry spring and summer. But not in 2025! This year, there are no burn bans in East Texas!
June has been anything but dry. Southeast Texas has picked up several inches of rainfall over the last few weeks, keeping lawns lush and wildfire risk low.
Around Matagorda Bay, over a foot of rain has come down this month. All that wet weather means no drought and no restrictions—something we can’t always count on this time of year.
Whether you’re heading to a big fireworks show or setting off sparklers at home (safely, of course), you won’t need to worry about crackly grass or crispy fields.
Just be sure to keep an eye on the forecast for any pop-up showers (this is Southeast Texas, after all!). If you do buy fireworks we’d love to see them! Send your photos to Click2Pins.
