Will today break the heat record?
HOUSTON – It’s shaping up to be another scorcher, with temperatures expected to climb back into the mid-nineties. If the mercury hits 96 degrees, it’ll set a new record for the area, following three consecutive record-breaking days last week.
According to KPRC 2’s meteorologist Justin Stapleton, the “feels like” temperature could reach the low hundreds. While the southwest wind continues at around 15 to 20 mph, it won’t be as intense, providing a slight respite from the heat.
A cool front’s on the way
A cool front is slowly making its way southward across the state, and it’s expected to bring a drop in humidity by tomorrow morning. As the north wind moves in, conditions should become more comfortable.
There’s also a chance of showers or aggressive thunderstorms popping up later today, particularly around 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., primarily affecting East Texas regions.
Weekend rain chances and extended forecast outlook
Looking ahead, there’s a slight chance of severe weather in the far eastern counties today. As the weekend approaches, rain chances increase slightly, with a 20 to 30 percent likelihood on Saturday and Sunday.
Heading into Memorial Day, those odds rise again. This weather pattern could help moderate temperatures, keeping them in the low nineties next week.
