Clouds build in overnight ahead of our next storm chance for Houston

Watching rain chances next week for the Livestock Show and Rodeo on Tuesday.

Tonight’s Forecast:

HOUSTON – Clouds have already started filtering ahead of our next storm system. Strong and persistent southerly winds have increased our humidity across Houston, which has allowed for cloud cover to streak in from the Gulf.

As we get into the overnight hours, the winds will die down, but it may still seem a bit breezy for some in the early morning hours. Fog shouldn’t be an issue as winds will be too strong for it to form. We’ll keep that blanket of clouds over us, which will help to keep us on the warmer side - only dropping to the mid 60s by Monday morning.

Early Week Cold Front:

A cold front will move through Tuesday, bringing the chance for rain and strong to severe thunderstorms.

An early look at the forecast suggests that the strongest storms will likely stay north and east of the Houston metro. Newer model data suggests that the intensity is trending down. Right now, models are showing the line moving into the Houston area overnight into the early morning hours of your commute.

However, everyone stays weather alert. We’ll continue to fine-tune the forecast the closer we get.

As you know, the timing and intensity can change, and we will bring you those updates on tv and online.

Most of the eastern half of the area is within the severe risk. The severe risk stretches from Galveston County up towards the Brazos Valley.

After Tuesday’s cold front, we’re back to seasonable weather for a couple of days before another warm ahead of our next cold front, which comes the weekend of Daylight Savings.
