Tropical downpours move into Houston this week

Flooding possible Monday through Wednesday

Tropical moisture make for a soggy set of days across SE Texas.

Tropical Outlook:

There is now a 70% chance that the first tropical system of the hurricane season develops this week. The center of the storm will likely make landfall in Mexico. While the center of the storm stays south it’s outer bands will reach SE Texas bringing days of rain.

High chance of development in the Gulf of Mexico early week.
If a tropical system develops , the center of the storm will be over Mexico.

What SE Texas Forecast:

Monday expect waves of scattered showers and storms start in the morning and continue through evening. Monday looks like the least amount of rain over the next three days.

Tuesday brings more widespread bands of showers and storms. Tuesday morning starts off with low rain chances, then activity picks up in the afternoon and evening.

Rain is possible but starts off light Tuesday morning.
Rain chances become more widespread later in the day Tuesday.

The slow moving nature of the bands will lead to a 3/4 risk of flooding. Street flooding is possible and we’ll have to watch out for flash flooding into Wednesday.

Tuesday there is a Moderate Flood risk (3/4) for Harris County into coastal communities.

Tuesday night through Wednesday more widespread tropical downpours move through. Wednesday night into Thursday the rain begins to pivot west, bringing some dry time back to SE Texas.

Rain total add up Monday through Thursday. The highest totals along the coast but Harris and Fort Bend counties could see more than 4 inches of rain. There is a risk for flooding each day.

10-Day Forecast:

Early week’s tropical downpours will keep temperatures in the 80s. Rain chances will drop over the weekend but we stay in a wet pattern along the Gulf Coast next week.
