Here are the updated traffic trends for Houston highways

HOUSTON – If you’re headed out this weekend, construction could impact your drive. Here is a list we’ve compiled with the information we have so far from the Texas Department of Transportation, just in case.

KPRC 2 traffic expert Anavid Reyes has assembled this list of work-zone hot spots that are confirmed as of Friday morning.

Weekend closures:

West Loop

  • Two southbound main lanes of the West Loop from Post Oak Road to the Southwest Freeway will close all weekend starting 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.

Tomball Tollway

  • There will be a total closure of the northbound and southbound main lanes on the Tomball Tollway beginning Friday, August 19 at 9 p.m. through Monday, August 22 at 5 a.m.
    • Closure Details:
      • The northbound main lanes from the Boudreaux exit ramp to the Grand Parkway tolled entrance ramp will be closed.
      • The southbound main lanes from the Grand Parkway tolled exit ramp to Boudreaux Road will be closed.
      • The southbound Holderrieth entrance ramp will be closed.
      • The northbound Northpointe entrance ramp will be closed.
    • Detour:
      • Drivers traveling northbound on the Tomball Tollway will be detoured to the frontage road at the Boudreaux exit ramp and may re-enter the tollway using the Grand Parkway entrance ramp.
      • Drivers traveling southbound on the Tomball Tollway will be detoured to the frontage road at the Grand Parkway exit ramp and may re-enter the tollway using the Northpointe entrance ramp.

Southwest Freeway

  • One northbound main lane of the Southwest Freeway from Shepherd Drive to Fannin Street will close daily from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday, August 22 to Tuesday, August 23. Also expect one shoulder to be closed during this time period as well.


  • The SH-146 northbound lanes will be reduced from the Fred Hartman Bridge/Ship Channel to Missouri Street in Baytown due to pavement repair work. This is happening continuously through Wednesday, August 31, 2022 3 p.m.

Grand Parkway

  • The eastbound main lanes will have a total closure at SH-249 happening nightly 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Friday, August 19 to Monday, August 22.

Long-term closures:

59/610 interchange

  • Starting Friday, April 29 at 9 p.m., crews will close the I-69 Southwest Freeway southbound connector ramp to I-610 West Loop southbound for two years.
  • The Chimney Rock exit from the Southwest Freeway southbound main lanes for the next two months.
    • DETOUR: Traffic will take the Fountain View exit ramp, U-turn at Fountain View onto IH 69 northbound feeder, to reach Chimney Rock Road

North Freeway

  • The southbound I-45 North Freeway service road, south of Cypresswood Drive is closed due to the Cypress Creek Bridge being reconstructed by TxDOT. If you need to get a location south of the area towards FM-1960, you need to get on the main lanes of I-45 and exit at Richey Road.

Gulf Freeway

  • Northbound and southbound lanes on the Gulf Freeway from FM-518 to FM-517 in League City will have one lane closed in each direction happening daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday, September 30.

75th Street Bridge over Brays Bayou

  • Crews will shut down the 75th Street bridge over Brays Bayou for bridge repairs. This closure is now active and will be in place for a year. An alternate route in the area to consider is Harrisburg to Wayside.
