HOUSTON – New options for coronavirus testing rolled out in Harris County on Friday. Walgreens launched two new rapid testing sites in west Houston and in Pasadena. According to Harris County Precinct 2 County Commissioner Adrian Garcia, the location in Pasadena was needed to help give better access to people who have been waiting for answers. “Localizing the testing and access to the testing is very critical,” Garcia said. The testing sites are open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

KATY, Texas – Several Mayde Creek Junior High students were sent to area hospitals Friday after a cellphone battery began to smoke, according to Katy Independent School District spokeswoman Maria DiPetta. According to the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office, investigators determined several students were playing with an old cellphone by taking it apart. Investigators said one of the students was playing with the battery, causing it to overheat, bulge and smoke. Those students were taken to our nurse’s office and those that suffered from smoke inhalation were transported by our EMS units,” Dipetta said. Officials with the West Lake Fire Department said the smoke was caused by battery failure.
