It might feel rare to hit the 80s in the middle of winter, especially since our average highs this time of year are between 65° and 71°. Believe it or not, it’s not all that unusual. In February 2024, we had four straight days of 80+ degrees on the 24th, 25th, 26th, and 27th. Fun fact: every single day in February has a record high of at least 80°.

More than 8,000 acres of saltwater wetlands and more than 80,000 of freshwater wetlands have been lost in the Galveston Bay system over the last two decades. The staggering numbers come from the Galveston Bay Foundation, which is actively working to improve the situation, in part because the wetlands serve as a habitat for wildlife and provide a buffer for storm surge. As the wetlands vanish, we become more vulnerable to flooding and water quality issues.

The Astros, as you know, were on the cusp of another trip to the World Series which would have been their third straight but those plans were derailed by the Texas Rangers when they came back to Houston and took down the Astros in the ALCS winning game 6 and again in game 7 that closed the door on the 2023 season. Thousands of students started their fall semester in these last few days. Happy back-to-school season to Klein, Galena and Fort Bend ISD among many many others. I’m sure you’ve definitely seen the traffic pattern change in your morning drive. It is BUSY out there. I remember looking at Spring Cypress Road near Klein Cain High School and it was dark red. Drivers, now that it’s getting a bit more congested out there, you’ve got to leave with extra time in the morning. We have so much going on early in the morning in our neighborhoods with kids headed back to class. School buses are running, kids riding their bikes or walking to school...the last thing you want to do is to rush out the door and speed down your neighborhood streets. Let’s do our best to keep our students safe out there!

Happy Friday-eve, my friends! I’ve wondered about the benefits for this button for as long as I’ve been driving. If you’re looking for it, you’ll find it, but it’s often the thing you likely look at and aren’t sure what to do with it. Our amazing Digital Special Projects Manager describes this button perfectly: “...The recirculation button is the button on your dash that sports a car outline with a U-shaped arrow inside of it. This button stops air flow from outside your vehicle so your air conditioner recirculates the air inside of the vehicle that’s already cool or on its way to being cool.”
