A new pilot program in Galveston called Project Fat Cat is installing free window A/C units for seniors, low-income families, and people with disabilities. The program, led by Build Galveston and funded by the CenterPoint Energy Foundation, honors the legacy of late community activist Leon Phillips. For residents like Timothy Edward, who lives with a disability and couldn’t afford a new unit, the installation has been life-changing. So far, the initiative has helped 17 homes, with plans to reach up to 38. Applications are still open for Galveston residents.
