(CNN) -- A young figure skater channeled her emotions through a beautiful skate routine she performed over the Black Lives Matter mural in Washington, DC. Nine-year-old Kaitlyn Saunders paid tribute to the Black Lives Matter movement with her routine, which she said was inspired by the many injustices that black people face in the United States. "I want to replace the negative messages that people have in their minds with positive ones," Kaitlyn told CNN. On June 8, Kaitlyn arrived at Black Lives Matter Plaza at 5:30 a.m., just minutes before sunrise, to perform her routine. (CNN) -- The White House wanted to have 10,000 active duty troops on the streets of Washington and other cities earlier this week to quell protesters, but Secretary of Defense Mark Esper and Chairman of the Joint of Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley pushed back at the use of any active duty troops, according to a senior defense official. Esper did move approximately 1,600 active duty troops to be in the Washington, DC, region to respond if needed but the approximately 5,000 National Guard troops already there never needed assistance and the active troops began to leave Thursday night. CBS first reported that the White House wanted 10,000 troops. CNN has reached out to the White House for comment. A defense official also confirmed a call with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday.

(CNN) -- As protesters gathered outside the White House Friday night in Washington, DC, President Donald Trump was briefly taken to the underground bunker for a period of time, according to a White House official and a law enforcement source. Trump has repeatedly praised the Secret Service for its handling of the protests outside the White House Friday night in the wake of George Floyd's death last week in Minneapolis. ET, Friday night outside the White House, had mostly quieted down by 3:30 a.m. The crowd thinned out and Secret Service officers were able to expand their perimeter and barriers around Lafayette Park across from the White House. Six arrests were made during the protests, the Secret Service confirmed in a statement Saturday afternoon.

When a three Michelin-star restaurant in Virginia opens its doors back up from the Covid-19 pandemic, reservations will be made for mannequins. The Inn at Little Washington -- an inn and restaurant about an hour and a half west of Washington, DC -- plans to begin reopening its indoor seating May 29, a spokesman for the restaurant Charlie Dougiello told CNN. So to fill out the restaurant that will be kept at 50% capacity for social distancing purposes, they -- naturally -- thought of mannequins. They will be seated at tables among guests to maintain social distancing as well as provide a laugh and a good picture, Dougiello said. To ensure the mannequins were dressed their best and on theme, the restaurant teamed up with a local theater.

The president complained that first lady Melania Trump and some of his staff members expressed concern about his health based on media reports about Saturday’s trip to the hospital. He said it’s the media that’s “sick.”Trump’s weekend hospital visit was not on his public schedule. Trump brought up the hospital visit on Tuesday while meeting with his Cabinet. Conley added that Trump consented to sharing his cholesterol level, now at 165, down from 196.
