Mother-daughter duo Shanna and Skylar Schanen share a love of film and Round Top. One evening over a glass of wine on their back porch, they dreamed up an idea that has now become a reality: the Round Top Film Festival. Now in its second year, the festival is already gaining momentum and drawing crowds; the co-founders say they have met attendees who have traveled from all over the world. This year more than 40 films will be screened at the festival. Watch the full interview to learn more about what Shanna and Skylar are most excited about, and what you'll find at the festival aside from the screenings.

Meet the face behind the Texas pie shop serving slices of heaven

Read full article: Meet the face behind the Texas pie shop serving slices of heaven

Tara Steele, owner of Royers Pie Haven in Round Top, Texas, started baking at just eight years old and knows how a slice of pie can bring people together. It builds relationships around pie.โ€Thereโ€™s about 17 different flavors at Royers Pie Haven and Round Top Cafe, and once you have one itโ€™s hard to forget. Taraโ€™s dad, Bud, known as โ€œThe Pie Manโ€ took over the cafรฉ with just two flavors of pie, buttermilk and apple. Pie Haven and the cafรฉ, we have not had to close down. I can still go to work and have joy, so Iโ€™m very grateful for pies.โ€Royers Pie Haven will have a pop-up at Renovate Houston on Friday, November 20, Saturday, November 21 and Tuesday November 24.

What to expect at this yearโ€™s Round Top Antiques Show

Read full article: What to expect at this yearโ€™s Round Top Antiques Show

If pondering whether to head to the renowned Round Top Antiques Show, which is currently underway, and wondering what you might find there, the answer is pretty simple: Little has changed in the age of COVID-19, other than the obvious. Thereโ€™s a similar gathering in the spring, but this yearโ€™s event was canceled with the pandemicโ€™s onset. Scattered across roughly 65 venues around Round Top, a burg measuring some 610 acres and famously boasting a permanent population of fewer than 100 people, the antiques fair also casts its net over other towns and communities such as Fayetteville, Carmine, Burton, and Warrenton. All venues agreed upon adjustments with an eye toward โ€œputting together a show that feels safe and healthy to everyoneโ€”and thereโ€™s a lot of fresh air at all the venues,โ€ says Katie Stavinoha, publisher of The Round Top Antiques Show Guide and Round Top Register. The antiques fair doesnโ€™t have a way to police the landscape, leaving everyone to mind the honor system of being a good neighbor, Plant explains.
