The Robert Zemeckis adaptation of โ€œRoald Dahlโ€™s The Witchesโ€ has found a new home on HBO Max this month just in time for Halloween. Warner Bros. said Friday that โ€œThe Witchesโ€ will debut on the subscription streaming service, owned by parent company WarnerMedia, on Oct. 22. Dahlโ€™s 1983 novel about an orphaned boy who discovers a coven of witches that hate children was previously adapted for the big screen in 1990 by director Nicolas Roeg. It starred Angelica Huston, Mai Zetterling and Rowan Atkinson and was a box office flop, despite its critical acclaim. This new version has actor Jahzir Bruno playing the boy who must try to stop the witches from turning the world's children into mice.

Steve Bing, a famed film financier, producer and philanthropist, died by suicide on Monday at the age of 55. Bing reportedly jumped from the 27th floor of a luxury apartment tower where he lived, TMZ reports. One of the first films he served on as a producer was the Sylvester Stallone thriller Get Carter in 2000. Along with his investments in film projects, Bing was also a large contributor to progressive political causes and used his resources to contribute to philanthropic organizations.
