Houston is home to some of the best doctors in the world, and some of those doctors have incredible talent outside the operating room. On May 3rd, the 'Doctor's in Recital' concert is happening at the River Oaks Theater, benefiting UTHealth's pediatric surgery burn program. Today we met some of the doctors/musicians who will be on stage.

AdFriends of River Oaks Theatre hosted two events in hopes of saving the longstanding cinema. Though the River Oaks Theatre is done showing movies, for now, Gish said the Friends of River Oaks coalition will continue to think of creative ways to share the theatre’s history.

Houston’s historic River Oaks Theater is in jeopardy of closing as its lease negotiations have stalled. According to a news release, the Landmark Theatres’ lease is coming to an end and the longstanding cinema is in danger of closing – once again. “We very much want to come to an agreement with Weingarten Realty and be able to continue to run our preeminent art house community theater. Like several other businesses, River Oaks Theater temporarily closed in March 2020 following the COVID-19 outbreak. “Certainly, this awful pandemic is not the fault of Landmark Theatres or Weingarten Realty, but we all must be flexible during these trying times...” Serwitz said.
