This week’s athlete of the week goes to Ridge Point wide receiver, Dane Jones. The senior standout was one of the Panther’s top weapons. Jones helped lead Ridge Point on another playoff run.

Ridge Point remains the bullies of Fort Bend ISD as the Panthers beat Hightower is a tight game. Willis blew out Conroe, while Dickinson took down Klein Oak in a 37-8 romp.

Over the past week, not much has changed in terms of who the top teams are. Grand Oaks and Cinco Ranch are still battling for the top spot in Class 6A, while Fulshear and Barbers Hill maintain their exemplary standing in Class 5A.

Lauryn Bailey enters year five of leading Ridge Point and holds a 138-32 overall record in that span. Bailey brings back six starters off last year’s team, led by Lauren Battle and Kennedi Rogers.

Cy-Fair followed up the regular season success and reached the Area Round before falling in five sets to Ridge Point. As the Bobcats turn the page to 2023, they will have to find some stat-stuffers on offense but will lean on Karina Smith (166 kills) to lead the attack early on.

One of the bigger early games was Cypress Creek facing Fort Bend Travis at the Merrell Center. The Cougars haven't been to the Regional Quarters since 2003, while FB Travis has made deep playoff runs recently. The Ridge Point Panthers came ready to play the Tompkins Falcons. Though the Falcons tried to make a comeback during the second half of the game, the Panthers were just too fast and it wasn't enough. HOUSTON - North Shore continues to check off the boxes. North Shore with the win improves to 14-0 overall and advances to its third-straight state semifinal game. Over the past three seasons, North Shore has amassed an overall record of 45-1 and has won 16-straight playoff games dating back to 2018.

Ridge Point is in the midst of its deepest playoff run since 2015. That year the Panthers were a Class 5A program. In the Houston-area, teams like Fort Bend Marshall, Crosby, Manvel, Clear Falls, Katy, North Shore and Ridge Point are the last teams standing. The Ridge Point Panthers began the year 0-2 with losses to Dickinson and C.E. “That’s where we turned the corner at the bye week,” said senior wide receiver John Paul Richardson, who will play at Oklahoma State next fall. Is Ridge Point getting slept on? The Panthers finished second in district a year ago but did fall in the first round to a scrappy Tompkins squad. The backcourt will be run by Caleb Hill and Reggie Prudhomme Jr., while Matthew Lewis is a sweet shooter from the outside. Ridge Point made a bit of history last year, reaching the Regional Semifinals for the first time in program history. Bringing back District 20-6A MVP and Texas State-signee Raven Adams and Newcomer of the Year Ashley Howard is a nice start. Adams averaged 10.6 points, 6.1 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game. Last season, Fontenot averaged 19.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, while Allen had 10.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Ridge Point has its top three producing players back and when a coach has 39 points and 14 rebounds per game coming back, it's a nice feeling.

This past weekend, Memorial defeated Ridge Point (3-1) and Pearland Dawson (3-0) in a dual-match, marking a pair of impressive wins for the Mustangs.
