A wildfire ignited by a lightning strike continues to burn through a remote bird sanctuary near Port Bolivar, having scorched approximately 160 acres of brush and marshland since Friday.
According to officials with the Texas Department of Transportation, crews working to dredge the area around the Port Bolivar ferry landing will be working on the 4th of July. However, this work is not expected to impact wait times or boat operations over the holiday weekend.

GALVESTON, Texas A voluntary evacuation order was issued Tuesday for residents of Bolivar Peninsula, including unincorporated areas of Port Bolivar, Crystal Beach, High Island and Gilchrist. Galveston County officials are expected to give an update on the order during an 11:30 a.m. news conference. After issuing a voluntary order Monday, the city of Galveston upgraded the order to mandatory on Tuesday. All residents were asked to secure loose items on their property and leave the island.
