The funding deal would reportedly ask the university to adopt a stricter definition of gender and a tuition freeze, among other conditions.

The White House is asking nine major universities to commit to President Donald Trump’s political priorities in exchange for more favorable access to federal money.

The money will help pay for a permanent home for the school on UT-Austin's campus. Conservative donors and lawmakers, including Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, helped create the school in 2023.

The University of Texas plans on building a hospital on its Austin campus in a partnership with MD Anderson, the UT System Board of Regents announced Monday.

The system leaders’ decision comes weeks after Gov. Greg Abbott ordered state agencies to stop considering diversity in hiring. Texas A&M University also recently changed its hiring practices.

UTSA decided to end the six-year tradition because the phrase had become “incongruent” with the university’s values and it did not want to become embroiled in a divisive issue.

Proposals obtained by The Texas Tribune indicate the institute would be “dedicated to the study and teaching of individual liberty, limited government, private enterprise and free markets.”

The news comes after the SEC voted to invite UT and the University of Oklahoma to join its 14-member league during a meeting with the league members’ presidents and chancellors Thursday afternoon.
