Black history meets modern love at Houston Public Library. Tonight, they're bringing a special Valentine's Day events that combine romance and history and tomorrow you'll get the chance to immerse yourself in the culture with music, food, and performances representing cultures from across Houston. The Houston Public Library has announced plans to reopen the Eleanor Freed-Montrose Neighborhood Library in a press release. The announcement comes two weeks after it closed for what was expected to be a relocation effort over safety concerns.

Plans are being made for a new location for the library.

After serving eighteen years as head librarian, Norman became unsatisfied and wanted to continue her educational path. Therefore, Norman returned to school and received her Master of Education degree from Texas Southern University in 1956. Upon completing her Master’s degree, Norman missed doing what she loved most: being a librarian. KPRC 2 is partnering with Texas Southern University throughout the month of February for a celebration of Houston Black history. She is a junior majoring in Journalism at Texas Southern University.

Question: When will the libraries reopen to visitors indoors? According to Texas Health and Human Services, libraries may be reopened and operate at 75% occupancy; however, the Houston Public Library (HPL) system remains closed due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. The library system began a phased reopening on June 1, offering curbside pick-up through our HPL TO GO service. Additionally, HPL continues to offer public wifi outside of all its libraries. HOUSTON – Mayor Turner will announce the launch of Liftoff Houston, the City of Houston’s annual business plan competition sponsored by Capital One Bank and administered by the Houston Public Library (HPL) and the Office of Business Opportunity (OBO). The plans will be announced at City Hall at 3 p.m.Turner said winners in three categories – Service, Product and Innovation – will each receive $10,000 from Capital One Bank. Due to COVID-19 concerns, this year all Liftoff Houston events will be held virtually. The program also includes an Educational Pathway, which provides business education opportunities to all who are interested. In the Houston Independent School District, it’s down 20% compared to last year’s enrollment numbers.
