Harris County constables are demanding pay equity for their deputies following the Houston City Council's approval of a five-year contract that raises Houston Police Department (HPD) officer salaries by 38%, making them the highest-paid in Texas.

Houston police chief J. Noe Diaz called the new contract “generational” and said it will allow his department to recruit “homegrown talent.”
