Experiencing physician burnout? Here is how to get help

Read full article: Experiencing physician burnout? Here is how to get help

HOUSTON โ€“ The Harris County Medical Society is concerned the coronavirus pandemic is taking a toll on the well-being of doctors causing physician burnout. โ€œWe have to deal with it because they also help people and they need to be in the best shape possible to help people who are sick,โ€ said Dr. Ronald Walters, the medical societyโ€™s president. โ€œThe uncertainty, the increased hours, loss of financial stability and personal risks we are experiencing this year have increased burnout,โ€ Walters wrote. While the issue of physician burnout is not new, Walters said another wave of COVID-19 cases could make it worse. If the stress of the job becomes too much, his message is simple: โ€œIf you think you might need help, please call.โ€The physician wellness program is available at 713-524-4267.

Doctors raise concern as colon cancer screenings down during pandemic

Read full article: Doctors raise concern as colon cancer screenings down during pandemic

HOUSTON Diagnoses for colon cancer went down 46% in March and April this year. While fewer people getting a cancer diagnosis is typically a good thing, the sudden decrease is another concern for doctors brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. Dr. Terah Isaacson, a Colon and Rectal surgeon, said colorectal screenings have gone down recently, probably because people are making fewer visits to doctors during the pandemic. Looking at the newly identified cancers from March to April, the breast and colorectal patients were cut in half. Weve seen patients in their 20s, 30s, 40s, definitely. She said while cancer screenings are supposed to be covered by insurance, sometimes the way insurance companies interpret codes and billing can leave the patient with a large payment.
