HOUSTON โ€“ Houston-based Halliburton has laid off 1,000 workers at its headquarters. Company officials said in a statement released to KPRC 2 on Wednesday the layoffs were due to โ€œthe unforeseeable, dramaticโ€ downturn in energy markets caused by the coronavirus. โ€œThe reductions are in addition to layoffs across the Companyโ€™s global operations,โ€ the statement read. โ€œThese actions are difficult but necessary as we adjust our business to customersโ€™ decreased activity.โ€This is just the latest round of layoffs the company has made since announcing a 60-day furlough of 3,500 workers in March. More than 200 workers at Halliburton facilities in Oklahoma and 36 workers at a facility in Louisiana were laid off in April.

HOUSTON โ€“ Oilfield services giant Halliburton has closed down two sites in Texas and laid off 240 employees in Oklahoma in response to reduced customer activity due to plummeting oil prices. But a Texas Workforce Commission notice says 233 workers have been laid off at the Kilgore facility. On Tuesday, Halliburton laid off 240 employees from a service center in Duncan, Oklahoma, according to the Oklahoma Office of Workforce Development. The company laid off 350 personnel at the same facility earlier this month. The company has laid off nearly 1,500 employees from Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Louisiana in April, filings with state officials show.

HOUSTON โ€“ Top U.S. oilfield services provider Halliburton confirmed to KPRC 2 Tuesday that the company will be laying off several workers. The company issued a statement that said:Halliburton confirms we are significantly reducing our workforce. As we make workforce reductions, we are taking numerous other actions to reduce our costs, including reducing the salaries of the Halliburton Executive Committee. When the coronavirus pandemic first broke out and oil prices saw a dramatic drop, the company told KPRC 2 it would furlough 3,500 employees in Houston for 60 days as shale producers slash spending amid falling oil prices. Non-conventional producers are expected to reduce their investments by 25-50% of planned spending this year, according to a report by Oil and Gas Magazine.

Oklahoma Office of Workforce Development spokesman David Crow says the agency was notified of the layoffs and apparent closure of the office, effective Monday. A Halliburton Energy Services Inc. spokeswoman tells The Associated Press the company will provide additional information โ€œby middayโ€ Tuesday. The EU commission has expressed concerns about competition being reduced by the deal. This week, Bloomberg reported that Total CEO Patrick Pouyanne voiced concerns over the deal. When asked if he voiced his opinion on Halliburton planning to buy Baker Hughes, he said, "Iโ€™m doing my job." Other companies that have been vocal in their opposition of the merger include Chevron Brazil and Sonangol.
