Despite the spotty weather, Houston police do not believe weather played a role and several witnesses said they approached the driver, who stayed briefly after the crash but took off before police arrived.

Authorities said a man was trying to cross the roadway when he was hit by an oncoming vehicle, and the driver did not stop.

Authorities say the driver did not show signs of intoxication but could face charges for failing to stop and render aid after hitting a pedestrian and driving several blocks before calling the police.
