Houston is facing a growing stray animal crisis, with BARC expecting to take in over 22,000 animals this year. The city ranks second in dog attacks on postal workers, emphasizing safety concerns. Residents finding strays should check for microchips, use social media to find owners, or consider temporary fostering. Houston's pet owners are required to register and microchip their pets and keep vaccinations current. Mayor Whitmire proposed $1.8 billion for city safety, including funds for BARC, to address these challenges. BARC's intake facility offers services on Sundays for immediate assistance.

As complaints continue to pile up, the issue of stray dogs and attacks is expected to take center stage at Tuesday’s Liberty County commissioner’s court meeting.
