Houstonians know all too well about the dreadful heat, but residents in need can always turn to cooling shelters, and now there will be an additional number of centers to help people escape the heatwave.

If you're looking to cool off during the excessive heat, the City of Houston activated its Public Health Heat Emergency Plan with a complete list of cooling centers.

As the heat rages on and about a million customers still wait anxiously for CenterPoint Energy to restore their power, the City of Houston as well as its nonprofit and county partners are activating more centers for residents needing respite.

The city of Houston will be opening two multi-service centers and a community center on Sunday and Monday as cooling centers for people without air conditioning to take refuge from the heat.

The Houston area is expected to see several days of 100-plus-degree temperatures this week.

Extreme heat is expected for Harris County on the Juneteenth holiday.

Temperatures are expected to rise this Mother’s Day weekend and in response, authorities have opened several public facilities located throughout the county to serve as emergency cooling centers, Saturday through Sunday.
