PEARLAND, Texas – When the Pearland Dawson volleyball team finished its Regional Final sweep of Seven Lakes, the Eagles rushed the floor in excitement, knowing they were moving on to the 6A Division 1 State Semifinals and making school history in the process.
With that win, the 2025 volleyball team became the first team in school history, in any sport, to reach the state semifinal round.
“Immediate tears once we won, like I knew I wanted the season to be special, and I knew it was going to be because everybody on the team is my best friend,” said senior middle blocker Keaton Points. “So to get to do it with this special of a group, it means the world to me, and I’m so happy for our school and that volleyball was the first sport to do it.”
“We always have a saying, and it’s One Team, One Moment, One Win, and it truly is just inspiring, and then One Legacy we added that on this week, and we just wanna play for all the people that were here before us," said senior libero Jenna Thedford.
When asking the team what they’re most looking forward to when playing in the state semifinal round, their answer has nothing to do with the match against San Antonio O’Connor.
“The whole team is getting our nails painted, so I’m really excited for that,” said Points. “We’re currently debating on the color scheme. I want black but I know some people want like neon green.”
“I want neon, I definitely want neon, some type of neon, I would say neon pink, but I don’t know if everybody’s on board with that, so I don’t know what we’ll end up doing, but we’ll see,” said Thedford.
“It appears that that’s gonna be their team building, and I’m all for it,” said Dawson Volleyball Head Coach Lauren Leth. “I’m not above bribery, I’ve gotten them donuts the last two times they’ve won so whatever it takes at this point, they need nails, we’ll do nails.”
The Eagles’ 6A Division 1 State Semifinal match against San Antonio O’Connor is on Saturday, November 15th at 4 p.m. at the Delmar Fieldhouse.
