HOUSTON – Texans starting safety M.J. Stewart tore his quadriceps and is out for the remainder of the season, per league sources.
He will undergo surgery and be placed on injured reserve.

Stewart got hurt in the first half Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
He was down for several minutes being attended to by trainers before his left leg was immobilized in an air cast.
He was carted off the field to the locker room for further examination. As Stewart was being driven off the field by trainers, he extended a thumbs-up to the crowd at NRG Stadium.

A former Tampa Bay Buccaneers second-round draft pick from North Carolina, Stewart, 30, has started three of eight games for the Texans this season. He entered Sunday with 25 tackles, one forced fumble, two passes defensed.
He has 237 career tackles, two interceptions and four forced fumbles.
