Some things never change for sports icons in Houston. Case in point is a star who proudly wore #80 right here in the Bayou City.
For 13 years, Andre Johnson was one of the best to play the game in the National Football League. Simply put, Andre was special and a rare talent that only comes around now and then.
In August of 2024, the Texans Legend entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, which was only fitting for the quiet yet productive leader of the Texans for many years.
One thing that has never changed for Johnson has been his connection to Houston and the ways he has continued to give back to the community.
KPRC2 Sports Director Randy McIlvoy was with Johnson on Wednesday afternoon at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Meyerland Plaza.
It was there that the former Texans star took time out to spend time with ten deserving kids from the Greater Houston YMCA. While there, Johnson spoke with the kids and then accompanied them on a shopping spree where each child was allowed to spend $150 to get whatever they wanted at Dick’s.
It was only fitting that Johnson happily roamed the aisles, packed their items and swiped his credit card to pay for the purchases.
It was a day these kids will never forget.
