BORDER BATTLE: Deer Park, La Porte prepare to meet in 65th meeting of historic football rivalry

The latest chapter of the “Border Battle” is shaping up to be another classic.

The rivalry between Deer Park High School and La Porte High School goes back generations, and it’s KPRC 2’s first Game of the Week of the high school football season!

The teams will face off for the 65th time on Friday, Aug. 29. The Deer are riding a four-game winning streak over the Bulldogs, with their most recent meeting resulting in a 25-22 home win.

Last season, the Deer went 8-3 overall and 6-1 in district play. Their campaign ended in the first round of the playoffs, losing to North Shore, 56-13.

La Porte went 10-4 overall in 2024, including an undefeated 7-0 in district play. They took down Anderson, Barbers Hill and A&M Consolidated in the first three rounds of the playoffs, before falling to Angleton in a nailbiter, 24-21.

This year, the Bulldogs will be at hosting, and the matchup will come with particular significance. It will be La Porte’s first game in Bulldog stadium, an 8,500-seat venue that will host the team moving forward.

Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
