The Texans made these moves official later and waived-injured Johnson in addition to releasing running back J.J. Taylor.

The Texans traded wide receiver John Metchie III to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for tight end Harrison Bryant and a pick swap of a sixth-round selection in 2026 from Houston to a fifth-round pick going back to Houston.

Powell, 27, is a former Kansas City Chiefs player who played collegiately at Clemson. He has also played in the United Football League for the DC Defenders, leading the league in touchdown catches. He finished with 29 catches for 419 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

Powell (6-foot, 204 pounds) has also played for the Seattle Seahawks.

He won two Super Bowl titles with the Chiefs and two national championships in college.

A former Chiefs fifth-round draft pick, Powell was a reserve for Kansas City who spent time on their practice squad. He has played in three games with no statistics.

At Clemson, he finished with 93 career catches for 1,211 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Winfree, 26, is a former Denver Broncos sixth-round draft pick from Colorado. After signing a four-year, $2.7 million contract, he spent his rookie season on injured reserve.

He was later with the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts.
