He hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2022 when he caught two passes for 15 yards. For his career, he has 37 catches for 568 yards and four touchdowns.

The Texans signed him last year after he was suspended indefinitely for violating the NFL gambling policy for the 2023 season and was reinstated last spring, signing with the Buffalo Bills in April for a brief stint before being released.

He was with the Los Angeles Rams last season with Texans offensive coordinator Nick Caley as a member of the practice squad and then signed a reserve-future deal in January before being waived in June. He was with the San Francisco 49ers for four days in July.

The Texans waived-injured wide receiver Johnny Johnson III, a fixture on their practice squad for the past few seasons. Johnson injured his right shoulder, per a league source.

Cephus (6-foot-1, 208 pounds), is a former fifth-round draft pick from Wisconsin.

With the Lions, Cephus played in 22 games. He has 37 career receptions for 568 yards and four touchdowns.

Cephus, 27, caught 20 passes for 349 yards and two touchdowns on 35 targets as a rookie.

Cephus declared early for the draft after being expelled and reinstated by the school and leading the Badgers in catches, receiving yards and touchdowns.
