HOUSTON – The Texans are signing defensive tackle Haggai Chisom Ndubuisi, per a league source.

The Texans are placing defensive tackle Kyonte Hamilton on injured reserve as he’ll undergo surgery to repair a fractured ankle suffered in practice Wednesday and will be out for roughly four months, per a league source.

Ndubuisi, an international prospect from Lagos, Nigeria, worked out for the Texans a week ago along with defensive lineman Cameron Young. Ndubuisi won’t count against the active roster because he’s an international player.

Ndubuisi was introduced to the NFL as part of the International Pathway program. He has been part of the Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos, Washington Commanders, New England Patriots and the United Football League’s San Antonio Brahmas.

He had five tackles, two quarterback hurries and one sack last preseason for the Commanders in 39 defensive snaps.

Ndubuisi, 24, is 6-foot-8, 340 pounds with 20 percent body fat. He was originally an offensive tackle in Arizona.

He grew up playing soccer and basketball and learned about football by watching YouTube videos and practicing the drills with his friends and family.

Ndubuisi spent last season with the Commanders. He signed with the Patriots in January, but was waived with a non-football illness designation.
